This one might not be as hard as usual — I made it, thought the grid was clean enough for NYT, submitted, and got noped. I think it’s a good puzzle, but of course NYT has a lot to choose from these days. Oh well!

Crosswords and Trivia by Stella Zawistowski 
I just learned about your puzzles recently. I’m working them as they come out as well as backward in your archive. I’m getting much better, but these are still very tough for me. I was actually able to solve this one straight through without putting it aside for a while, ending with a mistake, or at times, resorting to looking something up after 3 days of struggling, so yes, it was definitely on the easier side, but still a puzzle that required some thought.
The NYT seems to be catering to solvers who don’t really like to be puzzled and with a few exceptions have become way too easy, so I’m glad I can come here to get my fix and learn a few things.
Anyway, I just wanted to thank you for providing these wonderful and challenging puzzles.

“Sack holder”, I figured was “Slot” Since that’s where a quarterback is when they’re sacked.
Took me awhile to figure out how a slat could be sack holder.
